U-Turn or not?
USJ23 Neighbourhood

30/04/2003 - Our Chairman, Beh Yong Hock writes a letter of concern and makes 4 new recommendations to MPSJ as a result of the closure of the U-Turn leading into USJ23.

Read the letter he wrote to them here

12/04/2003 - The dangerous U-Turn leading into USJ23 is finally sealed with concrete slabs.

Please be extra careful when returning home, do not forget and turn into the concrete slabs

USJ23 Residents have been so use to the U-Turn that it has by now become second nature. But, since this U-Turn is now closed, we caution Residents to be extra careful when returning home.

We would also like to advice Residents who are going toward Putra Heights to make use of the Taipan2 underpass or the Puchong underpass, please do not drive against traffic in order to save a few minutes.

14/01/2003 - There is still no sign that the authorities will close off the dangerous U-Turn into USJ23 anytime soon.

The U-Turn sign has been knocked down

In the meantime, a heavy vehicle coming from Puchong to make a U-Turn has knocked down the U-Turn sign board.

Please therefore drive extra carefully when you negotiate the U-Turn, signaling well in advance your intentions, remember that road users who do not live in our area will never imagine that there is a U-Turn right at the base of a Trumpet Flyover. Let's make sure that we do not become another statistic in a serious accident.

23/09/2002 - Richard Khoo asked our ADUN YB Dato' Lee Hwa Beng on 22/09/2002, about the possibility of lighting up the "Trumpet Flyover", at the Question and Answer session we had during the Lantern and Mooncake Festival gathering.

Richard's wife, Helen was indeed very lucky to have escaped from a traumatic experience that took place on the evening of 25/08/2002 on the flyover, and it was pointed out to YB Dato' Lee that had the "Trumpet Flyover" been lighted the incident could have been avoided.

Exactly 1 day after the request was made, the bridge was lighted up like a Christmas tree.

Our sincere appreciation to YB Dato' Lee for his prompt action.

18/07/2002 - Our ADUN, YB Dato' Lee Hwa Beng gives us a helping hand by highlighting this problem to Puan Umi Kalthom - MPSJ Engineer. Read the email he wrote to Puan Umi here.

Let's hope that some speedy action is taken soonest possible.

Our heartfelt thanks to YB Dato' Lee for his kind assistance in this matter.

10/07/2002 - It had to happen sooner or later. At 6.30pm there was an accident involving a Blue Proton Satria and a Red/White taxi right at the U-Turn.

The drivers were publicity shy and had moved off before we could properly document the accident. However, we understand that no one was injured. If it was any consolation at all, the drivers were not residents of USJ23. What was left as evidence of the accident was the shattered headlamp of the Satria.

As the volume of traffic increases (especially with more vehicles, including large lorries starting to use this stretch of the road as a U-Turn back to Puchong), the danger of a serious accident happening becomes even more of a possibility.

We appeal once again to the authorities to close this U-Turn before one of our residents with children in their vehicle becomes involved in a serious accident.

View of U-Turn from the top of the flyover (notice you don't see the slip road!)   More vehicles including lorries are starting to use the flyover   See the slip road and the top of the flyover   Shattered headlamp evidence of accident

Until the authorities take some positive steps all USJ23 Residents are advised to approach this U-Turn with extreme care, by signaling well in advance, to other road users behind you, your intension to negotiate the U-Turn.

13/06/2002 - In August 2001, we featured an article (see below) about the dangers of having a u-turn at the foot of the gradient of the trumpet flyover, till this day nothing has been done. As more vehicles begin to use the "trumpet flyover", the chances of a serious accident happening becomes ever greater.

Presently there are also drivers and motorcycles who drive/ride against traffic in order to get to the opposite side of the road.

We appeal to the relevant authorities to take some positive steps immediately.

All USJ23 Residents are advised to take extra care when negotiating this turn when returning home.

11/01/2002 - We understand from MPSJ Councilor Mr Yap Yun Fatt that the present U-Turn located at the entrance of USJ 23/5A will be sealed once the trumpet flyover is fully operational.
Residents would have to make a U-Turn back to USJ23 further down the main road, near USJ26. And for those who want to drive to USJ 24, 26, 27 or Putra Heights from USJ23, you will have to travel along the main LDP road and do a U-Turn at USJ21 (what is known as Taipan 2).

We requested for and reminded the authorities that a U-Turn under the trumpet flyover would be needed, back in February 2001, but do they ever listen?

Hopefully, when this set of events come to pass, stubborn USJ23 residents who deliberately drive against traffic when going toward the USJ24 direction from USJ23, will stop their dangerous practice. Oh, yes and they will have no more excuses to say that they are doing so because USJ 23/5A is barricaded, since there will no longer be a turn.

On a more serious note, the turn has to be sealed immediately since the authorities have put up a large sign board indicating the direction to Putra Heights which should result in increased traffic, and the possibility of a serious accident taking place at the junction becomes reality.

16/08/2001 - Should there be a turn into or out of USJ 23, so near the gradient? We are talking about a 3 lane hi-way (six lanes if you add up both direction).

How many lanes is that?   Is this a proper place to have a turning?   Is it really far enough to have a turn?   The U-Turn would probably be removed

When completed do you think it will be an accident waiting to happen?
Why did they not provide for a U-Turn underneath the RM8.5 million Trumpet Flyover? After all we brought this matter up and it was reported in the press, way back in February 2001.

Write in to committee@usj23.com and tell us how you feel.
